College Action Sports Championships is a CBS College Sports Network-owned festival of collegiate championships, bringing together thousands of the best college action sports athletes from campuses across the country competing for titles and the right to be called national champions of their sport. The 5th annual Alt Games captures the true spirit of what it means to win a national championship in lifestyle sports that are trend-setting and have huge participant levels in the competitive scene. Wave House San Diego is once again the official San Diego venue for CBS College Sports Network’s Alt Games: College Action Sports Championships, an annual showcase of college action sports championship events, now in its fifth year. The Jack in the Box College Wakeboarding Nationals will be held at nearby Fiesta Island and the Jack in the Box College Flowboarding Championship will take place at Wave House San Diego at Belmont Park. This year’s events will take place May 14-16.
The CBS ALT Games are essentially a collegiate version of the X Games. College students from across the nation have competed in extreme sport events from Beach Volleyball and snowboarding, to wakeboarding and flowboarding for the past 5 years. This year though, with riders flying in from all over the world to compete in the Flowboarding championships, the ALT Games Flowboarding Championships are proud to be an international event for the first time.
The day long Flowboarding competition will begin at 9:00am on Saturday, May 15th on the Bruticus Maximus FlowBarrel® stationary wave and will feature riders from 15 different colleges and universities stemming from California and Chicago, all the way to Singapore, Chile and South Africa. With the influx of these international flowboarders, the level of riding in this year’s event is anticipated to far exceed anything we’ve seen on the FlowBarrel to date. The exciting showdown of the top 16 riders will begin at 4pm with the awards ceremony following the finals at 6:30pm.
In addition, CBS College Sports Network has added a series of emerging sports to the Alt Games roster, including a College Skateboarding exhibition that is part of Sun Diego’s Vans AM SLAM Skateboard Contest Series. The skateboarding exhibition will be held at Wave House Belmont Park in the east parking lot (east side of the Giant Dipper Rollercoaster) on Saturday, May 15 at 2:30 PM. Throughout the day there will be variety of other skate competitions from youth all the way up to a pro jam.
To wrap up the celebration, The Wave House will host a music festival headlined by The Summer Set and Iration starting at 7:00 PM. Tickets are free but one must have a ticket to attend. Click here for ticket information.
